GLP-1 Health Check
Starting semaglutide, liraglutide, or another GLP-1 medication?
Before you start GLP-1, know your baseline
STARTING A GLP-1 TREATMENT IS A METABOLIC SHIFT, NOT JUST A WEIGHT LOSS TOOL.
Is this test right for you?
This panel is designed for anyone considering or starting a GLP-1 treatment — whether prescribed by a physician or accessed independently.
It can be useful in three common situations:
- You've been prescribed Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro, and want a clear baseline before starting
- You're discussing GLP-1 treatment and would like objective data to guide the conversation
- You've already started treatment but never had a structured blood panel, and want to better understand where you stand
Why test before starting?
GLP-1 treatments can quickly influence several key systems in the body, including glucose regulation, lipid metabolism, liver enzymes and kidney function.
Having a baseline helps put future results into perspective. It allows you, and your physician to understand whether changes over time reflect an expected response, an individual variation, or something that deserves closer attention.
Some parameters, such as thyroid markers or pancreatic enzymes, can also provide useful context before starting treatment, particularly depending on your personal or family history.
Others, like Lp(a) or kidney function, are more stable over time but remain essential for interpreting your overall metabolic and cardiovascular profile.
What this panel is, and isn't
This panel provides a clear, structured view of your biology at a given moment.
It does not replace medical advice or a consultation. Rather, it complements it, by giving you and your physician objective data to work with.
If you're unsure whether GLP-1 treatment is appropriate for you, we recommend discussing it with your GP or an endocrinologist.
If you're moving forward and want a clear starting point, this panel helps you begin with confidence.
GLP-1 baseline panel includes:
- Blood sugar & HbA1c
- Full lipid panel + Lp(a)
- Kidney function + urine albumin:creatinine ratio
- Full liver panel
- Thyroid (TSH)
- Pancreas (Lipase)
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Iron stores (Ferritin)
- Vitamin B12 levels
- HbA1c (3-month average)
- Fasting plasma glucose
- Fasting insulin
- C-peptide
HbA1c is one of the main markers used to monitor metabolic response over time. C-peptide can also help clarify insulin production when needed.
- Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL
- Triglycerides & Non-HDL
- hsCRP — inflammation
GLP-1 treatment may improve lipid balance and inflammatory status. Lp(a) remains useful as an independent inherited cardiovascular risk marker.
- Creatinine + eGFR (CKD-EPI)
- Urea
- Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio
- Electrolytes (Na, K, Cl)
These markers help document baseline renal status and can detect dehydration-related changes during treatment.
- ALT, AST
- GGT
- ALP + total bilirubin
- Albumin
Baseline liver assessment is useful both for safety and for monitoring improvement in metabolic liver dysfunction over time.
- TSH
- Lipase
- Complete blood count (CBC) with differential
- Ferritin + serum iron + TIBC
- Vitamin B12
These markers help identify common contributors to fatigue and nutritional imbalance, especially during the early phases of treatment.

A few important considerations before treatment
This panel has been designed to document key baseline markers commonly reviewed before starting GLP-1 treatment.
In some cases, additional medical review may be appropriate before treatment begins, particularly in the presence of a personal or family history of thyroid disease, prior pancreatitis, or significant gastrointestinal symptoms.
Laboratory testing provides useful baseline information, but the indication for treatment and its suitability should always be assessed by the prescribing physician in light of your overall clinical context.
Recommendations: To ensure accurate results, it is recommended to fast for 8 to 12 hours before your blood draw. The day before, avoid alcohol, excessive exercise, and fatty foods. You may drink water.

No. Labology is a walk-in health lab, you can book and come in without a prescription or GP referral. Our team will ensure you get the right panel for your needs.
-
Yes, an 8 to 12-hour overnight fast is required for the glucose, insulin, C-peptide, and full lipid portions of the panel. You may drink water. Morning appointments make this straightforward.
-
Labology check-ups are self-pay and are not billed to KVG/OKP. Our pricing is transparent and fair and for many patients, the cost falls below the insurance deductible anyway.
